Structure-function analysis
of the human mitochondrial GTPase Miro
This project will focus on structural studies of the human isoforms of the human mitochondrial GTPase Miro, with a particular focus on understanding the structure/function relationship of the full-length protein and its involvement in mitochondrial membrane dynamics and disease. We will use protein crystallography in combination with biophysical and biochemical techniques to determine crystal structures of Miro and complexes with relevant physiologic ligands. The goal of this project is to enable a comprehensive understanding of the structure/function relationship of Miro, and will in particular provide a platform for explaining the altered function of disease-related mutants.
